Love Ghost
“Quiet Voices”
Los Angeles’ Love Ghost is on to something with their new single, “Quiet Voices.” A driving bass line and steady, straightforward drums guide the listener through the verses, accompanied by violist Mya Greene’s subtle textures. The payoff comes in the chorus, when the massive, crunchy guitars hit you hard, just like you want them to. “Quiet Voices” has a 90’s alternative sound, when bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains and Bush would wrap their alt-rock packages with fuzzy distortion pedals and string section bows on top. Love Ghost keeps it from feeling stale thanks largely to guitarist and lead singer Finnegan Bell, who has the voice and delivery this indie/alt rock genre demands. With clever lyrics, smart songwriting, and passionate performances, “Quiet Voices” might not be perfect, but it’s pretty damn close.
