Hi Craig, and welcome back to College Radio Charts! How has your summer been so far?
Hi , Yes it’s been great very hot and humid here in UK. Have been busy working finishing many upcoming projects.
Rebound/Iggy feels like a rebellious middle finger to genre boundaries. What made you want to release these two tracks as a double punch right now?
We had many options for release but we felt always felt that Rebound had some summer vibes and being we are working towards upcoming ROCKtronicS album it felt right. Yes we have no genre boundaries this has been so so important to our sound. IGGY track was recorded for the last studio album LOVESCOPE but felt at time needed new fresh mix. It bridges nicely from the last album to the next.
“Rebound” is both emotionally vulnerable and sonically explosive. When you were writing the lyrics, were you pulling from personal heartbreak or just observing the chaos around you?
A bit of both it’s a song I wrote many years ago in that period of change in relationship. Yes seen this Rebound effect from many friends around me. The fact some people move on thou still in love from before.
“Iggy” is clearly a spiritual homage to the one and only Iggy Pop. What does he represent to you personally—and how do you channel his spirit into Sir-Vere’s DNA?
IGGY is Godlike he has been a huge influence on us and many many people. His punk infused energies and his crossover appeal moving into Dance and other alternative cultures so well.
You co-wrote these songs with Gary Morland. What’s the creative dynamic like between the two of you—are there arguments, or is it telepathy at this point?
Gary & myself have been working together for many years and yes have telepathy at it’s core. Arguments no but yes sometimes I have a stronger idea on some tracks than he does. We agree to disagree on what tracks make up a finished project. Forever writing forever fluid it moves apace. Gary does the bulk of Instrumental & I write Lyrics but we collide and it works.
What’s your typical process when a new song starts forming—do lyrics come first, or is it always sound and texture leading the way?
No rules we normally have both working alongside each other. Gary works some demos then I pick out what works for me. We demo 5 or 6 then pick out the best.
Are there any tools, plugins, or even analog gear that you swear by?
Ableton based various plugins we have analog like Nord and various guitars with effects.
What’s your secret weapon in the studio?
That be telling ..Ha
Every artist has that one record that changed everything for them. What was yours—and why?
Wow so many have hit me hard. I still thou always go to Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam & the Ants. It’s power with the drums and post punk guitars and chants I truly love. Production by Chris Hughes is so so good.
You’ve said Sir-Vere “sticks to your guns.” What are those core values you refuse to compromise on, no matter what the industry or labels suggest?
We have had many major record companies knocking on our door but all wanted to change us in some way. We should be doing world tours and be much bigger but we won’t back down we believe in our ART always want success on our terms.
Let’s talk about Milton Keynes. Does the environment there fuel your sound, or do you feel like Sir-Vere’s music exists in total opposition to your surroundings?
Milton Keynes is a kinda futuristic new town with a weird grid mapped layout. Yes it fuels our sound away from our neighbour London.
You’ve found success both independently and now through Worldsound/Virgin. How do you balance artistic autonomy with the expectations of a bigger platform?
Feels the same with Worldsound we have license to release what we want when we want. Yes they overlook what we do but they don’t shape our sound.
What’s something about the recording or songwriting process that you think fans would be surprised to learn?
It’s not rocket science we are all creative souls in our own right. Being open minded and letting your juices flow so important. Never let it be forced.
Social media has become a playground for artists, and your TikTok presence is growing. How do you see platforms like that feeding—or fighting—your creative process?
I hate social media in so many ways but yes as an artist you have to promote through these means. Tik Tok I’m only just getting my head around it’s all time consuming getting that balance is hard.
If you could go back in time and give your younger self one piece of music advice—what would you say, and would you actually listen?
Ha learn those basic guitar chords rather than just making a nasty noise of sonics. Yes I’d listen to that.
ROCKtronicS is coming this October. What’s the central vibe of that album—and do these two new tracks set the tone for what’s to come?
Well yes & no ROCKtronicS is gonna be explosive swinging between big beats & alternative guitar stuff. We have another single EP New World Order out in September which takes on a brutal take on world events. Has been difficult getting the track listing right for this. We have a RED , WHITE & BLUE trilogy album concept ROCKtronicS is the RED.
Thank you so much for spending some time with us today. Where can people go to find out more about Sir-Vere and your music?
