Your musical journey is a tapestry woven from diverse influences and cultures. How did your Neapolitan heritage shape your sonic identity, and how has that heritage evolved over time?
Growing up in Naples, a city teeming with cultural exchange and musical diversity, I was exposed to a myriad of sounds and traditions. Neapolitan music, with its vibrant rhythms and emotional depth, provided a strong foundation. However, it was the cosmopolitan essence of the city that ignited my curiosity to explore beyond boundaries. As I delved into Jazz, World, and Classical traditions, I found a universe of possibilities to fuse and create something uniquely my own.
Your concept of Music Multiverse Exploration (MUMEx) has garnered attention and intrigue. Can you shed light on the origins of MUMEx and how it empowers artists to shape their sonic narratives?
MUMEx was born from a profound quest to uncover the underlying laws governing music, much like the laws that govern the cosmos. It’s a meta-language that transcends genres, enabling artists to create harmonious soundscapes. MUMEx offers a framework to organize melodic flow, counterpoint lines, and rhythmic figures in a way that resonates with the symmetries of the universe. This empowers composers and performers to craft compositions that tap into the cosmic essence of sound itself.
Let’s talk about your latest album, Ancient Cosmic Truth. What inspired this project, and how does it embody your artistic philosophy?
Ancient Cosmic Truth is a testament to our connection with the cosmos and our quest to unveil profound truths. The inspiration emerged from contemplating the universe’s mysteries and our place within it. Each track is a conversation with the cosmos, an attempt to capture the vibrations that permeate existence. The album embodies my belief that music is a conduit for exploring our deepest truths, bridging the gap between human experience and cosmic wonder.
The 2024 Grammy Awards have your name in contention for the “Best Alternative Jazz Album” category. How does this recognition resonate with your artistic journey, and what does it mean for the evolution of your music?
The possibility of a Grammy nomination is both exhilarating and humbling. It signifies the recognition of my relentless pursuit of pushing sonic boundaries and crafting innovative compositions. Being considered among the finest artists in the “Best Alternative Jazz Album” category is an affirmation of the transformative power of music to connect souls across dimensions. It fuels my passion to continue exploring uncharted territories and pushing the frontiers of creativity.
Looking to the future, what do you envision for your music career, and how do you plan to continue elevating your sonic explorations?
My vision is to venture further into unexplored musical territories, collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds. I’m committed to expanding the reach of MUMEx, inspiring fellow creators to embrace its universal language and craft harmonious sonic landscapes. Through live performances, recordings, and educational endeavors, I aim to forge a deeper bond between music and humanity, unlocking the cosmic potential within each note and resonating with audiences worldwide.
