Alexis Marrero just dropped her new single “Wake Me Up.” The self-taught musician from Cleveland has previously released “Are You Strong Enough” and “Rich AF”, both having over 100K streams on Spotify! Clearly Alexis is doing something right as she has over 250K followers on Instagram as well.
“Wake Me Up” dances between genres but should probably be categorized as rock. The intro and verses feel incredibly laid back when compared to the choruses, where the electric guitar really kicks in. Vocally Alexis sounds like a cross between Amy Lee of Evanescence and Channy Leaneagh of Poliça. While the subject matter of “Wake Me Up” isn’t particularly new, Marrero delivers a performance that feels fresh and full of energy. Clocking in at 3:14. the perfectly-produced song certainly doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. It does make us curious what a full album from Alexis Marrero would sound like. While she did release a 5-song EP in 2019, the rest of her catalog is made up of singles. Looking forward to whatever Alexis offers up next!
