Interview: Hillary Reese

Hello Hillary and welcome to CollegeRadioCharts.com. You recently released a new single titled “Wildfires.” Can you tell us a more about the song?
Wildfires is a song that’s super special to me. It is all about how gossip and spreading rumors is so toxic and how the people that do those types of things constantly, are usually toxic too.

“Wildfires” has some full-blown production going on! Where did you record the song and who joined you in the studio?
I recorded the song in two different studios, one time at Dark Horse Recording, and the other time at Sound Stage Recording. Both times were amazing and I had my two producers Kent Wells and Jeff Huskins.

The video for “Wildfires” was just released earlier this month and already has over 100K views on YouTube. Congrats! It’s a powerful video. How did the idea for the video come together and what was the filming process like?
I came up with the video concept, and the idea came about pretty quickly. I was sitting on my couch with my laptop, thinking about the video, and then it hit me so I typed it up. Then I went to a local Videogropher and his company(For Him Films) and I knew I had to work with him. The video took about 8hrs to fully shoot, but it was a blast!

Are there additional singles or a full-length album in the works?
There is definitely a lot of new music being made right now. I’m really just trying to focus on making the highest quality of music that I can possibly make right now, so I guess we will see!

What role does Mississippi play in your music?
Mississippi plays a huge role in my music!! I grew up with country music all around me and country people all around me, so naturally I wanted to sing country music. I think in this next phase it has played the biggest role, because I’m super blunt about my family and the people around me, which all roots from Mississippi.

You started performing at a very early age. Who would you say are your biggest influences and have they changed over the years?
I think my biggest influences have always been the old school country artist along with some of the new. I’ve always loved people such as Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, and so many more!

Somewhat related, are there any dream collaborators you’d like to work with?

I’d love to work with Loretta Lynn! She shaped country music so much and she has always spoken the truth. She’s definitely a role model of mine.

What impact (if any) did the pandemic have on this release?

A lot of press and things of that sort were virtual or remote because of the Pandemic. Also, there were several restrictions in place when recording the song.

What’s next for Hillary Reese in 2021 and where can people find out more about you and your music?
There is a ton more music in the works and hopefully we will get to start playing more shows soon. People can find more about me and my upcoming events on my Facebook and Instagram @officialhillaryreese, and hear my music on all streaming platforms.
